“Fiji is my favourite place in the world” says Deahann, the planner behind this gorgeous celebration — and the bride! A travel agent/wedding planner at I Do Fiji Holidays, the avid traveller is well acquainted with the lush landscapes and warm hospitality of this dreamy destination. “Having visited over 45 times, I still love everything about it,” she says. “I love planning clients’ weddings in Fiji and knew mine would be the same.”
When planning their own nuptials, Deahann and Paul envisioned a venue where they could host their own blended family and extend the invitation to family and friends. The Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort on the main island’s Coral Coast was the perfect fit with its five-star facilities, beautiful gardens, and stunning ocean views. The couple gave a nod to the tropical setting with fresh local blooms and luscious blue/green accents (love those maids’ gowns). Deahann’s gorgeous Grace Loves Lace gown also featured whimsical details inspired by the natural world.
This smitten pair became Mr & Mrs in Outrigger’s sea-facing Bure Ni Loloma (meaning ‘house of love’) chapel, with 80 loved ones sharing in the joyful ceremony. “My most precious memory is marrying my best friend and blending our beautiful family!” says Deahann of the emotional moments the family made it official.
A fun photo session later and the party headed poolside to the resort’s Vahavu area to enjoy a South Pacific barbeque feast. “The food was a big hit with everyone!” says Deahann. “It was so incredible having our family and friends with us — the highlight was our kids getting up to do a speech.” The newlyweds then lit up the dance floor with friends and family. “Our DJ (Will from Universal Tunes) was next-level amazing and had everyone dancing.” No wonder guests are calling it a night to remember!
Having planned countless holiday weddings, Deahann knows the main challenge facing any couple (and, let’s face it, any outdoor event) is the weather. “However, Outrigger Fiji does many weddings and has you covered for all weather,” she notes. “It was a little windy on the day, but we had the ceremony in the chapel away from the elements. The biggest advice I always give my brides, and myself, is to trust the process. And book suppliers that know what they’re doing and know the elements. You’ll be in great hands.”
The couple’s honeymoon was a fabulous journey through Fiji, resort hopping from the Outrigger (eight nights) to the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa (two nights) to Matamanoa Island Resort (four nights), and then the Radisson Blu Resort for a final night in paradise.
And Deahann’s expert, and now first-hand, advice for others considering a destination wedding? “Do it! You’ll have no regrets, just memories of a great experience and a fun holiday with all your family and friends.”
