Tequila shots, sunset dancefloor shenanigans, and the vibrant colours of the Riviera Maya region. Oh, and love. Lots of love! This super-fun Mexican destination wedding was brimming with all the good things for sweethearts Meaghan and Scott, including a flawless blue sky for their beach nuptials.
“It was, honestly, the most magical day of my life!” says Meaghan of the event that introduced friends and family to a beloved locale. “My husband and I travel to Mexico every February as our winter getaway from Michigan,” she explains. “We were planning for a smaller wedding, something more budget friendly, and a vacation for our guests … so we chose this destination for many reasons.”
The rich colours, opulent architecture, and beautiful beachfront of the Iberostar Paraiso Beach resort gave photographer Rachel Skye inspiration galore, with the venue’s abundant flora and fauna also providing plenty of memorable backdrops.
Enjoying a week-long experience with a small (but party-ready) guest list was a priority for the couple, so they allowed a generous lead time. “We planned with 16 months, giving everyone plenty of time to save,” says Meaghan. “Then we kept guests updated with regular communication along the way.”
The lingering cloud of Covid gave the couple a few stresses along the way, but the bride has no hesitation in recommending their colourful journey. “Do what you love and what you want, not what others are telling you,” Meaghan says to others considering a holiday wedding.
And for a celebration like this, why wouldn’t you follow your heart?
