A surprise downpour only made this couple’s Ubud wedding more romantic. It all started with the best of intentions. On a trip to Ubud two years ago, Stephanie and Daniel fell in love with the area’s natural beauty and knew they’d found the ideal place for their wedding. “It was actually on a terrace overlooking Ubud’s jungle where Daniel asked me to marry him,” remembers Stephanie.
Discovering their dream venue hidden within the lush rainforest, the couple worked with the wedding experts at Kayumanis Ubud Private Villas & Spa to plan their celebration. “We set the date for the end of Bali’s monsoon season and took our chances. The lovely staff even carried out a special ceremony to pray for sunshine!” Now, that’s service.
When Stephanie and Daniel’s special day came around, everything looked promising. Joined by their nearest and dearest in Ubud, the two tied the knot on a ‘floating’ deck, surrounded by verdant gardens. “It felt so surreal to have everyone we love there,” says Stephanie. Pronounced ‘husband and wife’, the two were showered with flower petals before the wedding party sat down for an indulgent six-course Balinese banquet. “The venue had built bamboo huts for us by the infinity pool where we shared the most beautiful meal,” explains Stephanie.
But, that’s when the weather turned. “As we started to tuck into our first course, the heavens opened!” Stephanie laughs. Luckily, Kayumanis’s staff were quick to shelter everyone with umbrellas. “Everyone was in such good spirits and it actually just added to the atmosphere of the day,” she recalls. “We ended up ditching the umbrellas and jumping in the pool!” A romantic first dance in the rain and an impressive fire dance rounded out the celebration. And despite the unplanned shower, Stephanie and Daniel say they wouldn’t change a thing. “It was so exciting to have all of our friends and family together in a destination that we really love.”
