Celebrate your Bali wedding in the island’s most charming region, Ubud. Whether you are thinking of jungle style wedding, or one with the backdrop of emerald rice paddies and flowing rivers, Bali’s spiritual heart offers an incredibly unique wedding location. Here is your ultimate guide to an Ubud Wedding- including Ubud’s best wedding venues.

What makes Ubud so blissful for a Bali wedding?

Follow the scent of frangipani and incense, deep into the misty mountains, to Bali’s cultural heartland. Ubud is welcoming and magical; a place where ancient temples share the spotlight with emerald rice terraces, boutique retreats, and vibrant townships buzzing with creatives and local craftspeople. The rush of the sacred Ayung River provides a refreshing soundtrack for this captivating escape, while the high elevation means cooler temperatures compared to the rest of Bali. Lush landscapes and a range of stunning local venues make Ubud a destination wedding favourite — it’s impossible to replicate the profound sense of peace you’ll discover here. Ubud is a true original, and so romantic.

Guest guide ideas for Ubud

Hike the Campuhan Ridge Walk at sunrise
This nine-kilometre trail guides you through a series of signature Ubud vignettes. Look out for the Pura Gunung Lebah Temple Complex, local village huts, views of Mount Agung, and an abundance of lush mountain, valley and rice field vistas. Best times to go are sunrise and sunset when the weather is cooler and the landscape is particularly breathtaking. A stellar introduction to Ubud.

Find zen
A natural fit as a wellness destination, Ubud is a place of peace and healing. Many resorts offer their own world-class day spa, positioned to capture river or jungle views. Indulge with a massage or sunrise yoga class and feel any residual ‘real world’ stress melt away.

Dine amongst the rice fields
If you’re not converging on the resort pool, treat your guests to dinner at one of the many quality restaurants on offer. Some are tucked away off the beaten track while others enjoy sweeping valley or river views. Vegans and vegetarians are well catered for and seasonal local produce is celebrated in every dish. Look out for the European take on Balinese flavours at Locavore, benchmark French/Asian cuisine at Mozaic, and the stunning riverside location of Swept Away at the Samaya.

Check out the jungle club scene
No beach in sight, but that doesn’t stop the relaxed party vibe at Ubud’s small but spectacular group of ‘clubs’. Most are housed within resorts, but visitors can purchase a day pass or package to access the gorgeous pools, bars and views. Start with cocktails at the Jungle Fish Pool Bar at Chapung Sebali Resort or the Wanna Jungle Pool and Bar, which was inspired by the curves of Bali’s famous Tegalalang Rice Terrace.

Shop the Ubud Art Market
Opposite the Puri Saren Royal Ubud Palace, you’ll find a colourful treasure-trove of local handicrafts, silk scarves, woven bags, jewellery and wooden ornaments and souvenirs.

What to know before you go
Climate: Although it does enjoy cooler temperatures than the rest of Bali, Ubud still shares the island’s glorious tropical climate. For most of the year, expect warm, humid days, balmy nights and regular misty rains. If you want to dodge the raindrops, try the ‘dry’ season from May to September when the humidity drops and there’s plenty of sunshine. If you don’t mind a cloud or two, ‘wet’ season is also low season, so you’ll have a good chance of nabbing a deal. And don’t forget, lush green rice fields look incredible before and after a storm!

Getting there: One of Bali’s many charms is that it’s so compact! From Denpasar Airport in the south to Ubud (in the centre of the island) takes less than an hour by car or resort transfer.
